The Aftermath

The banquet last night in Maubeuge was everything and more. Dinner was delightful and booze was free all night. We did wonder how long the booze would last; I left at 4am and there were still plenty of beer left.
I managed introduced myself to the legendary Wendy Smith, so my life is now complete!

Day five 14-AUG-2008

The competition was called last night, which was a bit of a shame, as we didn't get the chance to do round 7 or 8. It was nice to have a wee lie in this morning though. Semi-finals and finals were held in the morning, and the award ceremony took place in the afternoon. It was amazing to see the level of public interest throughout the event and during the closing ceremony. Literally thousands of people turned up to the DZ on the last day. I was even asked for an autograph! Congratulations to the girls for the Gold medal in the Women's 4-way, and Volarkix for the Free Fly Bronze.
The party tonight should be awesome!

Day four 10:27 13-AUG-2008

Day four has so far been worse than yesterday. It's been relatively dry, but blowing an absolute gale. They did start putting teams up, but it was just too windy. When you're at a world meet where everyone's swooping little hankerchieves and still not gaining any headway on landing, you know it's windy.

Day three 12-AUG-2008

Another rubbish weather day. The morning was a complete wipe out. It did clear in the afternoon and we manage to complete round 5 and 6. ROund 5 was much better. It wasn't particularly fast or agressive, just good, clean and text-book. Our energy level and focus were beginning to converge. Our round 6 was, despite a really good first two pages, it didn't quite end so well due to a severe brain lock. We ended up missing a point (19) completely, and we were severely penalised. Nonetheless, our flying was coming together. Forecast for the next couple of days was rubbish. Let's just hope that we do get the competition finished.
For some reason, still can't access our FTP site, so by the time anyone's read this, the competition would be over.

Day two 12:24 11-AUG-2008

Weather had been much better today. We had an early start this morning. I was showered and shaved by 5:30. It is now 12:24 and we are currently taking a wee break having completed round 4 of the competition. Can't say we are exactly tearing it up in the sky, but we are comfortable with our performance. Round 2 and 3 were OK, though We had a disappointing round four, but spirits and energy level remains high. We shall tear it all up into shreds in our next round. GGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......
We had gammon for lunch. The Strawberry tarts were nice.

Day 1 10-AUG-200

Weather had been a bit pants today. We managed to complete round one, and spent most of the afternoon sheltering from torrential rain. Our feet got wet and our kit got wet; still we felt pretty good and morales had been high. Let's just hope that weather improves for tomorrow. I'd be gutted if my first World Championship gets rained out.
